Fig trees are meant to be fruitful

When it comes to figs my first association brings the sense of a hot summer day, an idle stroll along the beach and the sweet fig fragrance in the air, mixed with the fresh breeze, coming from the sea. That sounds romantic, doesn’t it? It seems like your whole life is filled with divine abundance and happiness. And yes, it is, only because the fig trees are full with fruit. Beauty attracts more beauty, and there’s not a single sign to spoil the perfection of that moment.
Sometimes, however, the hot sunny days in our life are spoiled by a certain summer storm. These storms come so quickly and despite the few damages that can leave in our hearts for a while, we can recover as quickly as they have come. The typhoon like emotions, both originated within us and the ones, provoked from the surrounding environment, can be kept under strict control, if we take good care and pay enough attention to our humble needs.
Though the summer storms are something quite usual, they don’t happen so often. We are more likely to ignore them in favour of something more important to be here and now. That issue will become a real problem after all when the repetition of the storms gets quite often and we miss the moment for a break. Being exposed for too long to resist the gale of negative emotions, again and again, weakens our emotional protection to an extent of total helplessness.
The fruitful connection with the higher values and emotions, which has filled our lives with happiness and abundance, will have gone far away from us. Right at that very moment we are doomed to be cursed as a fruitless fig tree. Leaving apart the pure religious symbolism and focusing entirely on the emotional analysis of the parable, any further intentional act of channeling whatever negative emotion towards us will have a devastating effect.
Losing the connection with our higher self (our values and positive emotions) makes us vulnerable to all sorts of emotional attacks. To resist them, we have to be fruitful, i.e. to lead a life filled with love and faith, and to be in harmony with ourselves and the world around. The storms are inevitable – they will happen now and then and each one will bring a new lesson. Take some time to recover, fill your days with the sweet fig fragrance again, and then make the next step in your life.
