What is semiotics of life coaching?

That’s an interesting question since it neither sounds as semiotics nor as life coaching. The answer, however, is much simpler than you may expect it to be. I recently received a very flattering comment on one of my stories, stating “That’s you!” – An orange violet and a violet orange! Though I really love the comment, as it precisely defines my creative nature and devotion to constantly seek new ideas, the semiotics of life coaching have been found and introduced to the world a long, long time ago.
“Everything new is well-forgotten old!” I dare say, nothing has ever been forgotten – we only look for new expressions of the old ideas, and so does the semiotics of life coaching. Still wondering what a violet orange is that? That’s the Bible or any other holy book. Those are the evergreen fairy tale collections of Charles Perrault, Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen – you name it.
The semiotics of life coaching is an approach to teaching and learning important life lessons, introduced as parables, fables or stories. They are full of signs, symbols and figures of speech, not only to look more interesting and “colourful”, but to make us contemplate a little bit more on the plot, to go deeper into the content, and to finally reach the main idea of the lesson by ourselves. They make us think, research, analyse and look for the correct solution of a given issue.

Being an approach to teaching and learning, the semiotics of life coaching may go beyond the frame of wise books and to extend its scope over any approach which uses the multi-meaningful nature of symbolism to help us identify our goals and improve ourselves.
Thus, for example, these could be our dreams. They are the call of our subconscious, trying to tell or teach us something important that we miss during our waking life. That lesson usually comes as a mix of entangled signs and symbols which we have to translate into our waking language.
The charming synchronicity or déjà vu moments are yet another way to make us stop and contemplate on the meaning of what we have experienced. Apart from being strange, most probably because of their ambiguous scientific explanation, they support us to define our emotional condition right at that moment and to concentrate our whole attention on a concrete topic.
The semiotics of life coaching can even behold our body language since that’s the language of our emotions and they are much more easily expressed by signs and symbols than words. In fact, we communicate with the surrounding environment and express our individuality, not only, but more vividly, through our emotions and a non-verbal set of skills.
The semiotics of life coaching is not a digestive or a handbook with useful hints. It doesn’t offer ready answers and a quick tuition. It’s a lifetime training and learning a course, both for coaches and trainees, in search of the self-improvement and goal achievement. It builds awareness of the strong connection between our intellectual and emotional development viewed through our cultural background.
